Grand conflations have always helped as a rhetorical device, in order to gain support for the expert class. Grand conflations have never helped anyone clearly understand a complex issue, though. Uh, wait a second - its a Muriel Newman comment. It all makes sense now... That was when women stayed at home and loved and raised the children. Divorce was unheard of. Crime and violence was unheard of. Children grew up to respect their parents and abided by the law.
