Great to see NZ Herald columnist Kerre Woodham has had a go at airlines continuing with the sexist policy of removing males from seats next to where unaccompanied children are seated. This small minded, bigoted policy has been adopted by many airlines around the world. Some have since reversed it but others have put their heads in the sand and refused to review it. Thank god the policy provides no exceptions as even the mayor of London, Boris Johnston, was booted out of his seat and he has since stated he will fight to ensure British airlines will be forced to change their policy. Thanks for your support and your critical thinking in this matter Kerre.

  1. Maybe men should proactively police this policy.
By refusing to allow other children sit next to them on buses, on trains, in stadiums, theatres etc, in queues at supermarkets, and so forth.
And kick up a big stink when anyone objects. Cite that if it is good enuff for planes, then surely it is good enuff for these other arenas. Threaten to take your business unless suppliers comply.
All the while, hold Air NZ and Virgin, and Qanta and any other offending airline as responsible for your actions.
Go public via media (but ensuring you are not alone with any young female reporters). Cite that you are merely extending the airline’s rediculous policies to other similar situations.
Surely the airlines will change their tunes when they are made to look coninually and repeatedly stupid for adopting such incredibly rediculous policies.

Personally, I’m quite happy for schoolkids to be in entirely different buses, than sit anywhere next to me.

  2. I’ve thought of a great way to deal with this:
HOMOPHOBIA-PHOBIA –The fear of being thought homophobic
So- the airline steward asks you to please change seats, because you are sitting next to unaccompanied children, and ..airline policy….to tread men as paedophiles etc”

Your reaction is to claim to be deeply offended that they should treat you this way BECAUSE OF YOUR SEXUAL ORIENTATION and HOW CAN THEY BE SO HOMOPHOBIC and JUST BECAUSE OF THE WAY I AM you treat me like a child molester.

I bet they would back down fast!

  3. I can confirm having travelled on a Virgin flight this week that had an unaccompanied child on board, that no male was seated next to the child. Nor any female. In fact the seat next to the child had a label affixed “Flight Attendent Only”

  4. No different than 20 years ago, when they were insinuating that every male – father, grandfather was dodgy – and as a result – how many great fathers and grandfathers stopped having any physical contact with kids, no more sitting on their knees – because they were fearful of how they would be perceived to me – horrendous discrimination and bigotry.

Even Santa Clause has been labelled as a paedophile – no more sitting on his knee……..

Noddys a homo, no more golly wogs, and I think Big ears was pillow biter anyone else??

  5. Its worse than just that.
Anouther thing that AIR NZ does, Excluding that vile and disgusting (welcome to the womens republic of NZ, advertising. Shoved into the mind of every foriegn visitor. Just to let them no that you wouldn’t want to be prosecuted here in NZ. Our courts are biased against men. Stay in Malasia, it’s safer). What, whos the child sex offender? yes AIR NZ.

Yes it’s all about services, and the effort you make.
So the adult whos got a little bit lost, needs guidence to the plane, or to where some mystery terminal is. Service FREE.
Children with the same issue as the adult, unacompanied minors, not able to figure thing out themselves, yes the children of ostracised dads. Quite willing to charge them a small fortune for your services.
I can’t think of anybody else who’s doing that? Commits human rights violations against children for money.
Charges children a fortune but adults go free.

But then again for a entity that managed to through a few cents at the employers and manufacturing union, criticizing them for expressing an opinion. Being cowards and bullies till he resigned. Bigot fools, did you get up and tell the media that a week before you found a man and a women (adults) consentialy having sex in your workplace but only fired the male?

  6. Its also important for those that are paying attention to the big picture.
Proving the commiting the Crime of Genocide involves ticking boxs.
One box that needs to be ticked is the restriction of travel.
Perdantic yes, but all the little things count, men need not only the burden of proof, but to exceed it. Been in a courtroom lately?
