The myths persist.
No matter how many times mothers kill and seriously harm their own children the myth that this is exceptional persists.
Gabriela Espinosa, 23 was arrested early Saturday after police said she admitted drowning her 2 month old baby boy while they were interviewing her following a traffic stop, ABC TV station KFSN in Fresno, USA reported.
“What’s really unique in this situation isn’t just that an innocent child died, but that a child died at the hands of his own mother,” Fresno Police Department Deputy Chief Robert Nevarez said.
What is really unique about that? Mothers murder their own children more often than anyone else.
It is mind blowing how deep seated the refusal to acknowledge the true risk factors for children are.
I wonder if part of the reason is that the media do not identify the gender of the offender if she is female. This is certainly a pattern in NZ media.
Look at today’s news:
The headline is “Drunk drivers caught with kids in the car”.
In fact it is women drivers doing this. I.e. mothers demonstrating negligence towards their own children.

What makes this guy all the more laughable is that Fresno was the scene last year of a young woman charged with the rape and murder of the 9 year old playmate of her own daughter. The Sandra Cantu case was the talk of the entire U.S. If any police department was to plead dumb ignorance of woman’s capacity to kill children, it ain’t Fresno.

Are you really such an ostrich Scott B?
What drives and motivates you if you hide your head from news you dislike? Is it sensible or stupid to give up without even presenting an argument?
Take a leaf from Darryl’s good work in letter writing. He may write three for everyone published but his sensible, consistent and dilligent efforts result in some getting though and evey drop of water can erode some stone.
Alternatively you can emigrate or take easier ways out.

I’ve written more letters than my late printer could handle, and done plenty of other things too! I love how you assume things about someone you don’t even know!
I see this time and again when dealing with people. Those who have no argument or just want to argue, will often bring personal inults etc into things or make stuff up about the subject or person they are arguing with, in an attempt to sway the argument or conversation away from the real point… which they are probably losing anyway!

Good/bad news is all the same at the moment in the way things are reported, or perhaps not reported. In fact after not paying attention to the news for such a long time, my life has become happier, even though things are still really tough.
