More Marauding Media Misandry

Filed under: General — Ministry of Men's Affairs @ 12:46 pm Fri 18th May 2012

There never seems any end in sight concerning misandry in our media and in our world as reported by media. I only have time occasionally to expose a few current examples as in this post, but the fact is that rarely a day goes by without ongoing media evidence of sexism against men. It would be a full-time job to comment on them all.

Here is the full text of a news item from Russia. Note that the article simply states that this man was escaping from his girlfriend but nothing is said about what she was doing to motivate him to take such an extreme and dangerous action. This is typical for examples of domestic violence against men; they are either not reported at all, or reported in a way as to hide or to minimize female violence, or they treat such incidents as humourous:

MOSCOW (AFP) – A Russian man had to be rescued by emergency workers from a rubbish chute where he had jumped to escape his girlfriend but ended up getting stuck after sliding three floors down, officials said Thursday.
“According to the 31-year-old victim, he jumped into the metal chute on the 8th floor to escape his girlfriend,” the emergency ministry branch in the oil-rich Tyumen region said on its website.
Soviet era buildings in Russia frequently have a metal rubbish chute in the stairwell with a latch opening on each floor that is slightly bigger than a grocery bag.
The unidentified man apparently travelled three floors down the chute in the apartment building in Tyumen before getting jammed at the fifth floor level, when he started calling for help.
Rescue workers had to use an “electric instrument” to cut the metal and extricate the victim and passed him to a waiting ambulance team, the ministry said.

Ho ho ho, isn’t it funny to see a man injure himself trying to escape a violent woman!

When male workers are robbed or assaulted their gender is hardly ever mentioned even indirectly 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 (although any male gender of the offenders is emphasized) but whenever it is a female victim the article highlights her gender.

And what about this woman charged with clubbing her partner to death with a mallet, yet she is released on bail! What chances do you think a male mallet marauder would have to be released on bail? It seems there was no question that she attacked him and hit him repeatedly with the mallet though he actually died of resultant blood poisoning. He didn’t seek help immediately; perhaps he knew that if he sought help police were likely to evict him from his home or charge him with something because he is male. Further, this is yet another NZ case in which police were ordered by the Coroner to revisit a killing because they previously had not properly investigated the possibility that a woman killed someone. It really is beyond belief that this kind of corruption doesn’t get highlighted by our media; imagine the outcry if likely offenders were not properly investigated for serious crimes because they had white skin!

One rare positive initiative for men is Movember, and here is an encouraging update on this programme. It’s worth supporting if only because there are few other ways that men’s wefare is brought in to public consciousness.
