Hi advocates and activists. This, IMO, is a really big moment (just like the overhaul for Child Support and the Family Court was) for YOU (and me, hehehe).
Already the media is contact people among us and I worry many here feel out of touch because things change over time. I want to encourage YOU to use your voice evenso and to put the effort into contacting politicians and the media for YOU do make a difference, …. you always have…. it’s just that people don’t often see the results of their labour because they have moved onto dealing with another aspect of the problem.
The greatest thing everyone involved did was create awareness and turn shame into courage, IMO. People were silenced until activists and advocates started breaking the chains of silence online. Remember the ‘Name and shame’ website? That was amazing …. I remember hearing on the radio media expressing that they had a right to publicise the website. MP Annette King had told channel 3 that they were not allowed to air activist’s work and that they were encouraging the consequences such as ‘safety of social workers’ who at times had to have protection. Some were even moved to Australia, I heard. (lucky them, lol)
YOU know what goes on even if you don’t know the details.
This team put together to report is rightwing …. their personal interest is political but that’s not to say any other political party or interest group/individual is different. This will not be ‘in the best interest’ of families, IMO…. UNLESS…. YOU (finger is pointed at you – see Uncle Sam and think ‘I want you to stand for families) make it so.
Y’know, I think a lot of the awareness came from menz.org.nz. 🙂
JUST DO IT – opportunities like this don’t come around very often. 🙂 xx

Handing kids welfare to CYFS is state sanctioned child abuse!
