Mid-Life Crisis
I’m pissed off.
I didn’t wake up pissed off.
I read the news, and that got me pissed off.
Am I having a mid-life meltdown or is this because I’m a bloke – maybe I shouldn’t read the news;
The particular article that is winding up the internal spring of youth comes from RNZ political reporter, Jo Moir (and just coincidentally on #MensDayNZ) and the day after organised motorcycle rides in support of men’s issues.
And just coincidentally …
[If you’re having a mid-life meltdown about something else you’re welcome to contribute that]
… it’s reported
Crashes involving other types of vehicles over the weekend took the annual road toll above 330 – roughly the same number as this time last year, which went on to be the worst since 2009.
If memory serves me correctly didn’t election weekend cause a considerable amount of stress and a spike in accidents and perhaps there are other reasons why the road toll is suddenly so high;
I’m going to make a rash assumption based on the fact that our women’s prison population has doubled (since 2014) to around 850 mostly due to ‘p’ and suggest that there has been a dramatic increase in drugged female drivers who should never have had a licence anyway.
But NO, accordingly to our well informed Police Minister, the blokes are expected to suck the kumara for his political benefit;
Mr Nash saying, at some point people had to take personal responsibility for the country’s horrific road toll.
And in particular;
Both Mr Nash and the Police Association president Chris Cahill said the road toll was nearing crisis point and in the case of motorcycle deaths the anecdotal evidence suggested it was middle-aged men who did not have the experience to handle large motorbikes who were involved in most accidents.
“Dare I say it, it’s a lot of men going through a sort of mid-life crisis … they go out there and buy a big powerful bike and they just haven’t got the skills and experience to handle it when they get into trouble and they kill themselves,” Mr Nash said.
“Whether there needs to be something in place where if you buy a motorcycle over a certain CC rating then you have to pass a certain sort of test or you’ve got to be able to prove you can handle it in difficult sorts of situations.
“We need to be looking to do something different because too many people are dying on our roads.”
But wait there’s more;
Not wearing a seatbelt and driving while impaired or fatigued are still three of the biggest contributors to fatalities.
And throwing more police at this, yes, the man on the motorcycle, let’s have some police subconscious bias – I’m wondering if the Commissioner’s Office had any say in this?
Mr Cahill wants to see better roads, improved safety conditions and an education campaign around safe driving to try and tackle the high number of deaths on New Zealand roads.
He said the solution was more than just extra police on the road.
“We need to recognise that this is growing to a crisis.
“We need to put a lot of heads together and make sure we come up with a plan that involves not just more policing but also better roads, better safety conditions and look at what can actually be done to educate the public better on safe driving.”
So, when you get to this point it’s got to be a political suicide campaign, doesn’t it?
Three women committed suicide this weekend but forget about the hundreds of men in that situation.
Maybe that’s what’s pissing me off, the regular abuse of men, for the purpose of the media and some incompetent bitch that somehow got a job as an editor at Radio New Zealand.
These are the specific accidents referred to:
A rider who died on the West Coast this afternoon was taking part in a ride commemorating the Pike River Tragedy.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Lower Buller George Road just after 4pm.
The rider was part of the Tribute 29 Pike River Memorial Run, police said.
Officers investigating the crash will be examining a range of factors, they said.
Meanwhile, two people who died, and a third who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash in Southland this afternoon, were taking part in a charity fundraising ride organised by Drummond Motorcycle Club.
The accident occurred at a 12.45pm, about 40 kilometres from Invercargill.
Three motorcycles and three riders were involved in the crash near the intersection of Fairfax Isla Bank Road and Riverton Otautau Road, police said.
The weather was clear at the time and the road was dry, police said.
A fourth motorcyclist has died in Henderson, West Auckland.
The motorcyclist died at the scene of the Henderson Valley Road crash which happened at about 3.15pm, police said.

# Mr Downunder,,, If you are a Biker and therefore know other Bikers you can be sure of your skills, but my man is of that set and he gave it away some years ago, holding on through the beauty he kept hidden in the garage which recently he relinquished her to a better life.
Most of the old guard we know have done the same, there comes a time…
I do however know of two guys who have done the ‘gunna buy me a Harley thing’, and that is a worry.
On the apparant different note, to call for safer roads, education and treating it as a crisis would cost phenomonoly not to mention the more compliance. To know the rate of suicide for Men is a frustration to say the least. SOMEONE NEEDS TO GET ON THE AM SHOW !!! to speak for the Men NZ has lost to a modern war,,, do we have to get every family to place a white cross in the ground or in a letter to someone who will care???
While every girl and her dog is out there whimpering, whining and askin for more, where is the voice for Men???

@Mama I’m in the club of retired by commonsense also.
If you don’t already have a motorcycle licence you would have to do the graduated compliance anyway.
To be fair, we’ll probably see an increased motorcycle use by older men just as much as we see an increased number of homeless men.
Recently we’ve seen men dying on the street. Likewise why would there not be a proportional increase in male related motorcycle accidents if there is a change in road use.
And this is consequential. What’s driving it has probably got many people confused. Because it is being driven by Feminists.
If you’ve read a book called The Unfinished Revolution edited by Minky Worden, you’d get some idea of where the stupidity is coming from.
Page 328:
“Human rights organisations at both local and international level routinely address women’s rights CONCERNS, feminists groups see themselves as part of the human rights struggle, governments and intergovernmental agencies and EXPERTS take up the protection and promotion of women’s human rights as an integral part of their obligations and mandates, the press routinely investigates these issues, and donors see such work as fulfilling, rather than diluting the human rights idea. Most important, women’s dignity, equality, and power, once often consigned to the margins of public policy and civil society, now constitute central pillars of any effective strategy to secure the development and survival not only of this or that household, or community or country but also of the human race itself.
Women’s rights are indeed human rights.”
It’s hard yards reading this waffling crap, but this is what is driving the perceived nobility of the just cause.
I’m not one for burning books, or burning witches, and there is some sign of commonsense with older Feminist’s putting their seats back on their bikes, but it’s far from enough to stop what the average person finds inconceivable.

Police have confirmed a 52-year-old woman was killed in a motorcycle accident during the Pike River memorial run on Saturday.
She was bike passenger Jayne Jamieson, from Inangahua.

A good time to be reminded that more men commit suicide each year than the total male and female road and homicide tolls combined.

If the national broadcaster publishing political fiction is about feminist equality do let us know, and explain the confusion because we can’t both be right.
