Reproductive Rights For Men

The September 2014 issue of M2 magazine features several articles about fathers, “just in time for father’s day”.

One that is likely to be of interest to MENZ readers is by family law researcher Zoë Lawton titled “The Rights Of The Father“.

From the introduction:

Every year there are a number of unplanned pregnancies, many involving men who disagree with the woman’s decision to keep the child. Although less common, some women also trick men into becoming fathers. Women’s reproductive rights have been extensively researched and discussed in the media but little attention has been given to men’s reproductive rights – is it time to debate this?

In New Zealand, a man is automatically required to pay child support for 18 years unless the woman is prosecuted and convicted of a sex offense.

There are comments from nine men, three of whom believe the man should pay child support whatever the circumstances.

The same article also appears in the September issue of M2woman, with the addition of a prominant pull-quote:

Male campaigners for men’s reproductive rights… have often been labled (mostly by female campaigners) as ADVOCATING FOR “DEAD BEAT” MEN who simply want to avoid their parental responsibilities.

The woman’s version also includes comments from ten women as well as the nine men.

  1. Perhaps the way for men to reclaim their reproductive rights is to turn to ectogenesis. Women advertising their eggs for sale, at 15 – 20 a month, the better prospects could make quite a healthy living on the open market, although there is a distinct possibilty it would narrow the gene pool, with many men going for one option.

Maybe so much so that it would endanger human survival and in a last ditch effort we will create an earth like planet somewhere in the universe and start over again.

  2. Wow! I don’t think those women have factored in child suppoort into their profit margin… 🙂
