Unsupported child benefit – impact on child support
Hi all
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the impact of a child going onto an unsupported child benefit and how it then impacts on your child support liability? Does it reduce (as the child is no longer in the other parents care) or do IRD look to recover the benefit from either or both of the parents?
Cheers
B.
Had that experience in 1989 when youngest daughter left her mother’s (custodial parent) care and went on a youth benefit (or whatever it was called back then) and I stopped paying maintenance, however, that was before IRD got in on the ‘liable parent contribution’ nonsense. Suggest you contact WINZ rather than IRD to check current situation because your ex-wife may be required to disclose these changes.
