More than 40 of Britain’s leading male artists have united in the fight against prostate cancer, donating their works for the Everyman Men Only exhibition to be held at Liberty in London from 8 to 11 September.

Artists Damien Hirst, Sir Peter Blake, Rankin, Patrick Hughes and Martin Parr are among those who have donated works to be auctioned in memory of sculptor Allister Bowtell who died of prostate cancer in 2006, aged 66.

All funds raised during an action, led by Nick Bonham will go towards world leading prostate cancer research at The Institute of Cancer Research’s Everyman Centre.

Renowned sculptor, film designer and model maker, Allister Bowtell, was one of the 35,000 British men diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, but sadly lost his battle.

“Allister and I were completely unaware of the plague amongst men until he was diagnosed with late stage prostate cancer,” Pat Scovell-Bowtell, Allister’s wife said.

“My only hope is that better diagnostic tests can be developed along with better treatments for those with the aggressive type of the disease.” Read more

  1. THATS NOT ALL THE BRITISH DO JULIE…

    Surveillance

In July 2006, Norman Baker MP accused the British Government of “hoarding information about people who pose no danger to this country”, after it emerged that MI5 holds secret files on 272,000 individuals–equivalent to one in 160 adults [15]. It was later revealed that a “traffic light” system operates[16] [17]:
Green — active — about 10% of files
Amber — enquiries prohibited, further information may be added — about 46% of files.
Red — enquiries prohibited, substantial information may not be added — about 44% of files

I have been having secret meetings with Ahmed Zaoui and his son in the Pakuranga Plaza Library lately, inshallah..

  2. $1,000,000 raised in the fight against prostate cancer.

Did anyone see this on the news? It was only because a friend mentioned to me they had seen an article in the East and Bays Courier that I started looking. It is a pay only article and you can only see the picture and caption but it obviously comes from the Blue September site…

Key supporters, including Sir Peter Leitch, Buck Shelford, Mike Puru and Brett McGregor, gathered to recognise PlaceMakers’ nationwide fundraising effort that has resulted in $1million raised for the Prostate Cancer Foundation since they began sponsoring ‘Blue September’ in 2008.

    Key Facts:
“¢ 1in 10 NZ men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.
“¢ More than 500 men are still dying from prostate cancer every year.
“¢ It is estimated up to half of those deaths may have been prevented by early detection.

There’s an old joke about the fastest means of communication being telewoman – being faster than telephone or telegram as it was back then.
But news about men only travels by word of mouth and blog sites. Has it really got that bad?
