Seven people charged after police uncover fraudulent sexual abuse compensation scheme worth AU$1.3 Billion (NZ $1.44 Billion)
Detectives have executed search warrants and charged seven people across Sydney after uncovering an enormous sexual abuse claims scheme.
In a statement, NSW Police said the scheme saw payouts to date exceeding $1 billion.
Throughout yesterday, police arrested a further six people, including a 53-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man, a 42-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, a 35-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old man.
Each fake claim is a man and their family who has been put through hell.
I am going to call it. Any conviction made through this syndicate must be treated as unsafe. Countless convicted victims must be released immediately and quickly compensated. Those charged but not convicted must be compensated.
Charged but not convicted is extremely harmful. It is public, it can destroy a marriage. It is costly, mind occupying and can cause lifelong mental trauma. Most importantly, it causes male suicide.
