Two Governments, Two Ministers, One Question, No Answer.
During the term of the last Government, associate revenue minister Mr Cunliffe, was asked the same question we have asked of the Revenue Minister in the current Government, Mr Dunne, but still we receive no answer.
We know how much child support debt has been written off because it cannot be recovered from the estates of dead men. We have those figures for the past 6 years.
The question we have asked is how much money has the IRD recovered from the deceased estates of how many men in the past 6 years.
Why have two ministers in two governments refused to release this information?
Twice I have sought the advice given to Cabinet that has resulted in the current Bill before Parliament to yet again amend the Child Tax (Support) Act 1991.
Twice it has been refused. Two things I am quiet sure of:
1) Politicians don’t care about our kids or us as parents, they care purely about votes. They will only care when we make them care or put our own people into Parliament.
2) There are many parents who have contacted me with Child Tax debt problems. Many have been hounded and harassed by IRD to the point of breaking. Bank accounts cleaned out, wages taken, houses sold from under them. I have no doubt those Parents in debt to IRD see suicide as an option. I have had them in my lounge telling me that they see taking their life as the only way to deal with the draconian and crippling Child Tax.
There are solutions, but what is currently proposed is compounding the problem, creating a bigger mess that will see a radical change in the powers of the Commissioner of Inland Revenue and his role in collecting Child Tax.
Effectively creating a judge, jury and executioner all in one!
If you think they can screw you now wait till they pass the changes!
DON’T FORGET SUBMISSIONS ON THE CHANGES BEING MADE TO THE CHILD SUPPORT ACT NEED TO BE MADE BY 27 FEB.
