Felicity Goodyear-Smith is a family doctor who has worked in the sexual abuse field as a clinician and educator since 1982. As a police doctor specialising in sexual assault, she co-authored the first NZ text on medical examinations in this field. She was a founding member and chair of the HELP Foundation Trust, an organisation which provides counselling and medical care to all sexual assault victims.

Book: First Do No Harm

In 1993 she published the book First Do No Harm: the Sexual Abuse Industry, about false sexual abuse allegations. Since then she has been contacted by hundreds of people who say they have been falsely accused. 

COSA (Casualties of Sexual Allegations)

She was the founding President of COSA (Casualties of Sexual Allegations) which disseminates information about true and false sexual allegations and offers support for those involved in false accusations.

Positive Partners, Strong Families

In the late 1990’s, Men’s Centre North Shore members asked Dr Goodyear-Smith and her colleague Dr Tannis Laidlaw to design and study a scientifically-based programme to discover what actually does work to reduce family violence and conflict.  In April 1999 we launched ‘Positive Partners, Strong Families‘ – a two-hour course, one evening weekly for 8 weeks, teaching communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills for couples. 

Current Position

Dr Goodyear-Smith is a medical researcher at Auckland University.
