The Bad Dad List

    The Bad Dad List

is a book by Anna Kenna ( Illustrated by David Elliot)

Its published by Learning Media Limited

Dad is laid off and mum works full time so dad is an at home parent.

Dad is hopeless and his son makes a bad dad list.

This list includes: getting a speeding ticket, forgets to pack the kids lunches, a washing machine disaster….

Dad then does something good and the boys image of him changes. To quote “By the end of the year dad had turned into quite a good mum”

This book was given to an 11year old boy to read as homework from school

The portrayal of fatherhood in this book is full of sexist assumptions and I suggest a further example of the feminisation of the New Zealand Education System.

Boys (and girls) need positive portrayals of fatherhood not a Bad Dad List.

    Holy shit!
    Scrap, Thankyou for posting this.
    What a find!
Little would surprise me about the feminisation of nz primary schools. This is simply another low point amongst many.

How about sending the book or a reference to it to Judy Turner? She may well need the support of such actions to fend off her femmie colleagues, and it seems like a classic example of the kind of male-bashing she’s saying she’s concerned about.

    Scrap,

    I found the book.

“”Chloe’s dad has lost his job. Her mum has gone back to work, and Dad looks after Chloe and her family home. Unfortunately, Dad forgets to do things. Chloe compares him unfavourably with her mum. She starts to make a list of all the bad things he has done.””

Oh my goodness I am in shock! And they are giving it out to children?? My father was a house hubby for eight years raising four kids (two that werent even his). Sorry, love yeah mum, but dad did a better job at cooking and cleaning :).

  6. Hans Laven says:

Can we know which school provided this book to children? With that information I will make a complaint to the Ministry (Misandry) of Education with a copy to the minister. It would also be a useful media topic.

Is this the same Anna Kenna that works as a journalist for TVNZ?.
No wonder there is so much feminist and anti-male crap on the news these days.

    Isn’t this book about tranformation?
how Dad does learn how to do all that stuff and gains the respect of his kids?
    sounds ok to me….
( might be a good idea to read it before complaining?)
