    7 Kevin Hague (chief executive — West Coast DHB)

    Hague, formerly Director of the NZ Aids Foundation, was the author of “The Health of men: A Discussion Document” (1996 North Health) which inspired a public protest meeting on the North Shore, and a detailed critique of “The Health of men” by Men’s Centre North Shore chairman Mark Rowley.

    The environment in which this report was written can be evoked by this news item in the local paper at the time:

    Mr Rod Humpage of North Health confirms that discrimination against middle-class white males is deliberate. “They are the ones who have been accessing these services predominantly for the last 20 years – the emphasis is now to redress the balance”, he says.

  3. Men are the hardest group to get into medical care. Blokes don’t get check ups and soldier on. The concept that blokes have been monopolising health care is absurd. Kevin Hauge is also an old political hack from the late 70’s early 80’s at Auckland University Student’s Association.
