Bail criteria
I was just wondering how common it is for a man who has been arrested for murder to be immediately released on bail to stay with friends and not have to report in until trial?

……..Yes, I just have finished reading that article in the N.Z Herald …….And my answer is…No way would a Man get Bail immediately ….But good old New Zealand as in the Double Standards routine…..
What is the bet this Lady will plea the defense of the ‘I have been mentally and physical Abused’…e.g…. Battered Woman syndrome…..

Parliment did away with the provacation defense just before Christmas. I’m not sure when the new legislation takes effect from but the removal of provacation (after Clayton Weatherston) removes the option of a Gay Oakes Battered Woman defence as well.

This woman will definetly have reporting conditions and corrections will issue her with a lovely bracelet and sending station to check their 24 hour curfew. She will have a card file at the local cop shop for signing in several times a week. Sound like she will have to provide a urine sample periodically as well.

I have heard of it however it is VERY uncommon.
The Bail conditions published are interesting. There is no mention of monitoring though I agree with Allan. While on bail an accused person will receive visits from police at random times 24/7. These can be stringent, down to having an unmarked care “Watch” the property afterwards! The drain on police is high. I have reason to believe that in addition to the corrections system, the police operate their own bail monitoring system, however it is not as extensive.
The whole issue is interesting. There some wonderful dots to be joined up.
You could do little better than to try Google!

I know I am getting of the subject here…But I had to laugh and cry at the same time…..I read this particular article and just had to shake my head in disbelieve….
