Domestic violence caught on cctv
The attempted murder of a man in Hamilton today.
“At this time a male pedestrian has been run over by a car driven by his 44-year-old female partner at the Ohaupo Rd shops by the intersection with Normandy Ave,” he said.
Viewer discretion advised – contains graphic footage of female violence.
I wouldn’t be surprised if after all this guy is going to be charged with ‘male assault female’ for attacking her car.

Then they’ll pin a White Ribbon on him and ask him to take the pledge.

Firstly, it is plain simple emotive headline grabbing to pronounce this case as attempted murder. The article itself does not make this claim; very likelty, this case will simply go down as ‘aggravated assault with intent to injure’.
Secondly, I find NZ Herald equally as bad – but at the other extreme, when they headline the incident as ‘River plunge follows hit and run’ – as though the river plunge is the tragedy to report.
NZ Herald – why not afford this man the same level of sympathy, and the woman, the same level of judgement, as you would apply if the roles were reversed?
Thirdly, I find the final paragraph just plain inexplicable – “Sadly just seven days out from White Ribbon Week, today’s incident also highlights the dangers associated with domestic violence and police urge anyone who feels unsafe in their home situation to seek help,”
WTF! White Ribbon is about violence by men on women and children. We don’t know what occurred prior to the assault with a deadly weapon – but sure as hell if this man had contacted police in fear of his safety, he is the one who would have been subject to an instant removal order. All she would have to say is ‘I feel threatened’!

If you repost this article from the Herald this is how it displays.
This is absolute Bullshit. She was rescued by a man and his son who happened to be nearby, when she drove the car over a bank into the river.

Watch this space!
Before you know it, it’ll be another touted form of DV, for a male to leave, or to even just tell his partner that he’s about to or intending to leave, the relationship.

Yeah, this fellow is just going to have to take responsibility for his actions and accept that he caused the ‘accident’.
Comment by Schizzle — Mon 18th November 2013 @ 6:31 pm
Correct me if I am wrong, but I can’t find a single media update on the condition of the hit and run ‘victim’. I am sure we would have heard if he had died in hospital overnight.
In the article outlining the release of the driver from hospital you would think that any reasonable journalist would have included an update on the ‘victim’ of this hit and run.
This is typical of news involving males; they might not die overnight, but the story or any news about them certainly does.

At 44, the offender is still a young woman. No doubt she’ll make an amazing recovery, get a degree in social work, and a job a CYFS.

Attempted murder charge in alleged hit and run.

I’m delighted the victim is alive and yes this charge seems appropriate given the video. Good on the Police putting it to the Court and not accepting the spin from the woman’s friends that such violence can be justified by allegations against the victim, or poor mental health.

This is interesting.
The above link to TV3 has been broken, as has another to the NZ Herald – the only two media outlets to report the court hearing today.
I’m not sure where this site fits into the media scene;
How can any witnesses who haven’t yet come forward do so, if mainstream media is shutting down the reporting of this crime?
And yes, it did get picked up by UK media.

Hamilton hit and run case. The last I heard about this was that the defendant was due to appear in court on the Friday morning after the event. Has there been any media reports since? This case just seems to have disappeared.
I am wondering if the two Mooloo women are in fact the same woman?

Nothing much to see here really; if a jury can’t figure out that harm is intended by driving a car into someone then we have a real problem. Wait a minute; it was a man she was driving into and the poor wee lass was just under so much pressure and stress; okay – no issues there – carry on!

Just to ensure there’s follow up; the NZ Herald reported on the Hamilton “hit and run” incident of November 2013; today.
Cliff plunge hit-and-run accused named
11:10 AM Tuesday Jul 8, 2014
A woman accused of running over a man before fleeing the scene and driving the vehicle over a 10 metre high cliff into the Waikato River can now be named.
Annette Wallis appeared at the High Court at Hamilton today to face a charge of attempted murder and another of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The charges relate to an incident last November outside a Hamilton dairy in which she allegedly drove over a man in her car.
The Hamilton woman has pleaded not guilty to the charges and will go to trial next month.
Comment by Bruce S — Tue 8th July 2014 @ 1:16 pm
…so now she pleads guilty to a “lesser charge” of wounding with intent. So intentionally running someone over (more than once) is not deemed “attempted murder”. Hmmmm will remember that; might come in handy one day.

A Hamilton woman who has admitted driving her car at a man and hitting him before driving off a cliff into the Waikato River.
Annette Kaye Wallis, 45, originally pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on November 17, last year.
However, in the High Court at Hamilton this morning Wallis pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Wallis drove her car at her partner outside a dairy at the Ohaupo Rd shops before fleeing down Cobham Dr and off a cliff into the river.
Justice Fogarty convicted Wallis and remanded her in further custody for sentencing in October.
He also issued a first strike warning.
The attempted murder charge will be withdrawn at sentencing.

After seeing the recent case where the judge relied on ‘reports’ to excuse the female defendant from a jail sentence – watch this space – she’s already been assessed.
