Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is currently running ads to promote its new Hot Shot Bites. The spots feature a woman violently slapping a man.

According to the KFC Facebook page, these adverts are intended to be humorous.

The organisation SAVE Stop Abusive and Violent Environments is running an international campaign to get these misandrist adverts removed. SAVE notes that men are more likely than women to be victims of domestic violence and that research shows a woman’s initiation of partner violence is the leading cause of female domestic violence injury.

SAVE suggests you;

• email KFC president John Cywinski,
• post a message on the KFC Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KFC,
• or visit your local KFC and politely complain to the manager.

When I first got involved with Men’s Centre North Shore back in the early 1990s we held a men’s health day. I remember a local fitness instructor telling us that in his opinion KFC does not belong anywhere inside the healthy food triangle.

The popularity of this product in NZ is a major contributor to our obesity epidemic, which is now the leading cause of avoidable ill-health and premature death.

Many years ago I tried eating KFC a couple of times and decided I’d rather eat my own shoe leather than a product with such a high fat content, so unfortunately my personal boycott is unlikely to have any effect on their corporate profits.
