Are the USA running out of pussy passes?
“I hope you die in prison,” Michigan judge erupts on woman convicted of killing boyfriend.
JACKSON, Mich. – If a judge could throw the book at a woman, he managed to do so on Wednesday.
Not physically, but certainly by his stinging words. He had a lot of words for 31-year-old Camia Gamet, the woman convicted of killing her boyfriend Marcel Hill in March. Gamet claimed it was self defense and showed no remorse.
A First Degree murder conviction by law meant she would get life behind bars. Still, while family members spoke she would only roll her eyes and laugh, but Jackson County Circuit Court Judge John McBain would have none of it.
“You’re gonna shut your mouth or I’m going to have some duct tape put on it,” said Judge McBain.
A jury convicted Gamet for stabbing and beating to death Hill. Her lawyer argued she acted in self defense, because she claimed she killed an unknown attacker in a dark room. The judge wasn’t buying that and called it the worst cold-blooded murder he’s ever seen.
The prosecutor argued Gamet’s actions were premeditated and deliberate. She stabbed Hill 11 times and had a history of violence against him.
Hill told police in March of 2013 she hit him in the head with a hammer.
Family members say justice was served and they hope a lesson was learned about how abuse can come in all forms no matter the gender.
Can we finally begin to hope that we may see similar, proper justice without gender bias in a New Zealand court room sometime soon? Please?

I know every state is different but you get the feeling from the news they might be taking a different line with female offenders after reading this.

So where was justice a year ago? If it had been the other way around, i.e. he had hit her in the head with a hammer in March 2013, then by March 2014 he would almost certainly still have been banned from contact with her, either on remand still awaiting trial or already serving the jail sentence men could expect for such violence. So what happened when SHE hit HIM in the head with a hammer? Nothing it seems. The police probably attended after he phoned them for help and ordered HIM out of the house under threat of prosecution, just like they do here in NZ.
The fact that the news article failed to question the state’s response after she hit him in the head with a hammer last year shows the deep sexism that still reigns supreme in that US state as it does elsewhere. Again, if a male hit a female in the head with a hammer then was in a position to be able to murder her a year later, the main theme of media reports would have been “Why didn’t police / Courts intervene properly to avert the subsequent tragedy?”. Instead, the media coverage shown here asks no hard questions and simply marvels at the unusual spectacle of a judge actually giving deserved feedback to a violent, callous female. Unfortunately, given that underlying sexism hasn’t really changed, such spectacles will continue to be unusual.
Wait also for the appeals in this case. This judge’s clear vision of events and honest expression of disgust will no doubt assist her appeal in a higher Court. Plenty of opportunities yet for their justice system to pull a pussy pass out of the hat, with an unlimited supply of chivalrous pussy passes still nestled under judicial wigs throughout western jurisdictions.
