Feminists, white knights and moralists are currently mounting a campaign against pornography. False propaganda is rapidly being invented and disseminated (no pun intended…) through our media: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Exaggerated or false claims made about the content of legal pornography depicting sexual violence, being aggressive and demeaning to women are easy to make because those who use pornography are unlikely to speak up in contradiction and those who don’t use pornography are unlikely to check out the content to find most of it isn’t really like that. Apparently in NZ legal pornography suddenly has all manner of bad effects on people that were long ago ruled out by international research. Some counsellors claim they see hordes of males ‘addicted’ to pornography; even if this were true it would more reflect Judeo-Christian guilt, still pervasive in our society, around sex and masturbation than any real features of addiction.

Sexual abuse counsellors claim that what males see on pornography causes them to have unrealistic expectations of females, fail to treat ‘women with respect’, fail to gain consent and fail to prioritize ‘love’ and respect. Some of this may or may not be true but there is no good research supporting these claims. Everything we hear in the media campaign assumes that sexual relationships should operate in the ways women imagine they want them and therefore the only approved ways for men now; men’s wishes and natural tendencies are unacceptable and irrelevant.

Yes, the internet has significantly expanded people’s access to pornography and exposes much younger people to basic sexual knowledge and to seeing sexual behaviour that in the past was adult, private and generally unseen. Yes, it’s a good idea to research this and its impact. However, we already have censorship laws that reasonably reflect society’s morals (even though they were never based much on what research showed about how pornography does and does not affect people’s behaviour). The feminists will now try to extend censorship to increasingly illegalize depiction of men’s interests, and will demand ever more draconian punishment for those (except women) who breach censorship laws.

Censorship of any kind is a dangerous wedge that always becomes a tool for political repression. Failure by our government to highlight and to protect our right to free speech has encouraged various groups including feminists to believe they have the right to shut down anyone who expresses opinions they don’t like to hear, to believe that ‘feeling offended’ or ‘feeling uncomfortable’ by another person’s opinion is a good reason to censor that opinion. So we see organizations including universities prohibiting men’s groups and allowing feminists violently to shut down MRA conferences and speakers.

The typical heterosexual relationship was one in which the man often asked, begged, cajoled or pressured his partner for sex and she either allowed him access to her body or not. ‘Rape within marriage’ laws represented to some extent a rejection by women of any responsibility to assist male partners with meeting their sexual needs. Feminists had the idea of ‘conjugal rights’ thrown out of law and with it any sense of responsibility on wives or female partners to participate in sex except on their terms, or not at all ever if that be a woman’s preference. The only important thing now is the woman’s interest in sex at any one moment. The idea that the woman might care enough about the man to allow herself to become interested in sex when she initially wasn’t on any particular occasion is anathema to feminists. We simply don’t hear any such consideration discussed in media coverage of relationships, ‘rape culture’ and related issues.

Pornography represents for males a freedom from having to rely on women for sexual stimulation and release, and thereby threatens the sexual power women have traditionally held over men. Pornography is an important tool for MGTOW and for men to make better choices over prospective partners with reduced influence from their powerful sexual needs over those choices. The feminists will now become increasingly loud and dishonest in their campaign to restrict men’s independence and personal freedoms in this area. This will involve at least two main thrusts (no pun intended…). One will do what religions so successfully did in the past to control people: associate sexuality with sin, guilt and shame (in this case only male sexuality that in any way differs from claimed feminist preference). The other will be through lobbying government and demanding ever more draconian repression of anything that interests males sexually aside from what women can use to control men.
