Peter Ellis gets another appeal
Felicity was interviewed on Morning Report today about the forthcoming appeal by Peter Ellis. She says:
“Basing a conviction purely on a child’s testimony, particularly when there has been a number of suggestive interviews that have taken place, is incredibly unsafe…not just for the person who gets wrongly convicted – it is incredibly damaging for the children who come to believe that these terrible things happened to them when they didn’t.”
Peter Ellis appeal: Police interviews under scrutiny
Peter Ellis has been granted leave to appeal his case at the Supreme Court. The 61-year-old was jailed for 10 years for abusing seven children at the Christchurch Civic Creche in 1991. He served seven years, but has always maintained his innocence. He’s now been diagnosed with terminal cancer and wants to clear his name before he dies. He has failed twice in the Court of Appeal to overturn his convictions. A key piece of evidence in Supreme Court case is a study looking into how the child witnesses were interviewed by police. Corin Dann speaks to Professor Felicity Goodyear-Smith from Auckland University, a specialist in interviewing children in sex abuse cases and a long time supporter of Peter Ellis.
Another interview with Don Brash followed:
Don Brash says Peter Ellis appeal a win for justice
A long-time supporter of Peter Ellis says the Supreme Court’s decision to hear his appeal is a win for justice … but they will need to hurry up. Peter Ellis served seven years for abusing seven children at a creche in Christchurch – now he’s got cancer and just months to live and he wants to spend it clearing his name. Susie Ferguson spoke to former National Party leader Don Brash, who campaigned for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into Ellis’s case.

Peter Ellis ought eat baking soda with molasses in order to cure his cancer before seeking to demonstrate innocence. Fighters always die as do we all. Yet when a fighter is carved to be a demon – the human suffers. Who is carving this particular story – we ought wonder and why.

The gay community stole the word gay. The rainbow community did the same. Ought such new communities falsely recognising an educated self be persecuted for that error by popular educated opinion or otherwise ought the natural language of male female child prevail as to comprehend the human dimension as if it were animal. Male female child. To the rest of you – lose your drugs.

I imagine there are COSA fathers dealing with alienation issues, John and the decision is important to many children who are now adults, not just to Peter Ellis.

Poor Peter, to think this has been what his life has been since all that time ago, I have heard parents of the children he allegedly abused were paid compensation,, if so ,, what was that all about?
Childrens’ coercion on such a level is the ugliest thing imaginable, for every one child in this situation many many more lives are detrimentally affected. I cant imagine there would be more than say 3 people in the whole of this country that could be trusted to deal with children in these situations.

I do not know what COSA means. Personally, I take the information to be talking around the inadequacy of a system to deal with a matter on the basis of truth, first. That says that the jurisdiction of manipulation is the driver. Of course it means a lot to everyone involved, the same as everyone entire. Male, female child is the first equation of being the human animal. Science has intervened and as implied through earlier posts, to furnish its market. Child care is the product of a market. All else becomes subsequent including the Peter Ellis debacle.

If I; any have a child born from my semen, then humanly – I own responsibility for the child. The responsibility has little to do with directors. Yet directors apparently man own to rule.

Good post, John.
Soundbites are probably a better way to go for real time collaboration.

Dear Ben, you make more sense, the less that you say. In the gaps between your words, there is more wisdom than I have ever heard from legal workers, up a bench or down a bench…
Casualties Of Sexual Abuse. I think it now runs under a different name.
The caught$ are slower learners than the scientists, particularly when they are enjoying the money.
The people who have moved these practices forward, have done so from outside the caught$ and are worth far more recognition and honour than they have received so far. Their wisdom and humility shine brightly and quietly as an example to us all.

Surely he has the opportunity to go to the Privy Council ? I’m sure his “crime” was long before that fascist Helen Clark created the NZ Supreme Court.
