I am sorry for being a man
What a statement made by someone intending to be our next Prime Minister. By this apology he has painted every single male in this country as an abuser and a rapist.

I guess you were playing to the gallery but jeez David you’re only making things worse for the rest of us by telling these harpies what they want to hear. You’ve also given the media a great sound bite, that’s a double fail.

” Children most often killed by mothers”

News: National
New Zealand mothers kill more children than any other group in society and men are victims of domestic violence as often as women, a police investigation has found.
The Family Violence Death Review, released today by police, found mothers were responsible for 45 per cent of children killed by domestic violence.
The review of 95 family violence deaths involving 101 victims between 2004 and 2011 revealed some “inconvenient truths”, Family First national director Bob McCoskrie said.
He said the statistics debunked the misleading popular perception “that women and children need to be protected from men”.
“This gender focus is misleading,” Mr McCoskrie said.
“If we’re really serious about reducing family violence, we need to talk about … our violent culture and the role alcohol and drugs play in fuelling this environment.”
The police report – which only involved deaths that were subject to a Family Violence Death Review – found:
“¢ Victims were spread almost equally between men, women and children
“¢ Mothers killed 15 of the 33 child victims
“¢ 81 per cent of female victims and 29 per cent of male victims were killed by a former or current spouse or partner
“¢ 64 per cent of all deaths were in families where police had prior involvement
“¢ In 55 per cent of child deaths police had prior involvement with the family
“¢ Most suspects or offenders were aged in their 20s.
University of Otago Professor David Fergusson, an expert on domestic violence, said the public perception that men were the perpetrators of most domestic violence was the result of biased publicity.
“The proper message is that both gender groups have a capacity for domestic violence [and] women probably perpetrate more assaults on children then men do,” Mr Fergusson said…..”

I think Cunliffe’s desperate and ill judged pitch for the female vote will cost him votes, both female and male. He does not have good political instinct.
Comment by Bruce Tichbon — Fri 4th July 2014 @ 5:45 pm
It is worse than that Bruce.
I’ve watched and listened to this guy for a number of years. He’s a delusional male feminist that believes that supporting feminist dogma will buy him the easy road to Prime Minister of New Zealand.
Watch this space – I think this could see some serious backlash.

After greetings David Cunliffe’s speech began.
“Can I begin by saying …
I’m sorry.
I don’t often say it …
I am sorry for being a man right now because family and sexual violence is perpetrated overwhelmingly by men against women and children.
So the first message to the men out there is: wake up; stand up; man up; and stop this bullshit.”
I have it recorded.
Comment by Wayne Burrows — Fri 4th July 2014 @ 6:57 pm
All men, we are told, must take responsibility for domestic violence, because it is “overwhelmingly” committed by men against women and children.
All men.
I take full responsibility for domestic violence against women and children. I live alone; ergo can’t possibly be committing any domestic violence against anyone (except perhaps against myself); but I take full responsibility for the actions of other [men].
I add this to taking responsibility for the injustices committed against Maori. I have no descendants in this country dating back more than 60 years, no English descendants; no French descendants; not Polynesian descendants etc etc., ergo have no ancestral links to the injustices committed; but I take full responsibility for these injustices.
I add to this taking responsibility for eliminating poverty. I grew up in poverty. I went to one of the lowest decile colleges. I have worked every day of my adult life to a position of relative wealth; I did all this off my own efforts; yet somehow I must also work at eliminating other people’s poverty. I take full responsibility.
I must also, I am told, take responsibility for alcohol abuse throughout society. I admit it. I am responsible.
I take responsibility for eliminating rape and sexual abuse of women and children. It was me. I’m responsible.
I take responsibility for keeping the environment green. I take responsibility for burning of fossil fuels, my carbon footprint, for global warming and climate change. Its all my fault. I’m responsible.
I take responsibility for eliming obesity, especially in Polynesians and amongst the poor. I forced them! I’m responsible.
I am German. I take responsibility for the injustices committed by Hilter and his cronies against jews, homosexuals, gypsies, the disabled, and well, anyone he didn’t consider fit to live. I take responsibility
I add this to taking responsibility for the murder of Jesus Christ. I am part Jewish. I wasn’t there, but am nonetheless somehow accountable for my ancestors actions some 2,000 years ago; but I take responsibility.
FCUK taking all this responsibility. FCUK people telling me I’m responsible for everything wrong in this world.

Cunliffe went on to offer – was it $60M or was it $600M to eliminating domestic violence. if elected.
So exactly how does he plan this? Require all men to vacate the family homes? Ban men from marrying and having children? All men subject to permanent supervised contact only with their ex partners and children? Guarantee convictions of all accused men based solely on the testimony of an aggrieved woman?

Cunliffe was correct in referring to “bullshit, deep-seated sexism” in NZ that has to stop, but of course that sexism is anti-male not what Cunliffe meant. As evidence for his claim Cunliffe cited the fact that men commit most family and sexual violence (and he is correct about that regarding sexual violence and partially correct regarding physical violence at least at the more serious end) but the relevance of that to ‘sexism’ is slight. Men tend to be stronger than women physically and their biological drives are different. One may as well say it’s ‘sexist’ that women and not men become pregnant. Yes, men have responsibility and some ability to exercise choice over the use of their strength and reactions to ensure they are socially advantageous and not bullying, but one might say the same about women’s choice to become pregnant.
Cunliffe would almost certainly trot out the gender pay gap as pretty well the only other possible example he could come up with of anti-female sexism. However, even if one accepted the figures and the way they are calculated, many careful analyses have clearly shown this also has little to do with anti-female sexism. Indeed, any sexism the pay gap reflects pertains mainly to the greater choice socially supported for women regarding work vs home balance, commitment to career and the opportunity to live supported by someone else’s earnings.
Cunliffe will find it difficult to come up with other examples of sexism against females in NZ. We easily can and do point to numerous examples of serious sexism in favour of females and against men in NZ. Such sexism is blatant in a number of written laws (while there is no law now that discriminates deliberately against women) and is clear in all spheres of our society from law enforcement to Court behaviour and sentences to welfare provision to media bias etc ad nauseum. Cunliffe’s party even employs anti-male sexism in its candidate selection processes.
Given this latest stuff from its leader, Labour is clearly a misandrist party. The Greens would compete with Labour for the top Misandry Award but most other parties show considerable misandry too. I note that John Key has cleverly ridiculed Cunliffe’s apology but in doing so Key admitted his own party’s sexism by reminding us that last week they “announced a number of initiatives to actually protect women and to make sure that we live in a safer society”. Well Mr Key, your party’s policies are intended almost exclusively to clobber men with increasingly draconian action that will often get it wrong and/or be unjust. They are as sexist as Cunliffe’s pathetic grovelling was. If you really want to make society safer it would be much better to take initiatives to protect the most frequent victims of violence in our society generally: men. Start by increasing respect and gratitude towards each other and especially towards men, and by steadfastly protecting men’s rights and equal treatment under the state. Treat both men and women as deserving to be respected, loved and cared about. Instead Mr Key, your party is simply adding to feminist hatred, stereotyping and labelling of men as bad, violent, irresponsible and needing to be treated like animals, and men will increasingly conform to the mould you are placing them in. You are encouraging an attitude of violent revenge against men and that will only make society more violent.
