   A little misleading to say jailed:

   Rivas’s lawyer has called the judgement a “failure of the judicial system” and indicated she would appeal against the verdict.

   Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister Carmen Calvo has said that Rivas will not be jailed until the sentence is confirmed.

   “The interests of the two children must be protected, even in these moments,” she said.

   Antonio Maíllo, head of a left-wing federation of parties in the southern Andalucia region, said the verdict was “barbaric” and set a worrying precedent.

   It reads that she played the court system and the odds through social media. It would also appear that the court system is retaliating with a bit of the same – let’s start with 5 years jail hanging over your head and see what the court of public opinion says when we put that in the media.

   Would you say it’s very Spanish, the way they do things?

   But certainly worth following Triassic. Be interesting to see where this goes.

   That BBC report is incredibly biased. I speak Spanish.
   Spain has a pandemic of fatherlessness due to the sexist nature of the family courts. It is much like NZ courts or possibly worse. The woman makes an allegation of domestic violence, she gets custody and the father is toast. This is so effective that there are thousands of these cases every year. It is routine. The innocent father is just cast aside. The hearing is just pretense.
   The only chance a father has is to plead guilty and beg for forgiveness.
   There have been mass protests about it.

   It could be that by being so incredibly abusive and public in her actions in this case, the mother has forced the courts to act, in order to prevent themselves becoming entirely irrelevant. I mean why have a family court at all? The outcome is predetermined. So perhaps the court was forced to act in reverse of normal procedures just to try and prevent themselves being done away with entirely.

   I wouldn’t rush to thinking the tide has really turned in Spain, yet. Just look at the biased reporting and the feminist activists protesting.
