Humanity and its Technological Drop Out
The seventies were a time that had humans rally for humanity. There was no technology driven communication being used by the masses but it seemed that hoards of people were coming together for a common concern..hee hee and lucky for them music was abound and the quality would become classic…ahhh… and I guess we have to say the drugs ran as free as the rivers. HOWEVER!..minds were free.
We seemed happy before technological communication took a good deal of presidence in our lives.
You know, dinner table chat, card games, badminton at the local hall, because of technology we are becoming more and more insular,,, what are we doing to the kids.
No wonder people hate free speech , they would prefer to hear it only if they felt like it at the time.
Technology driven communication?
We could go back to smoke signals and drum beating.
The printing press.
The radio.
The movie theatres.
Record players.
What changed may have been the commercialisation of these various forms of communication.
1970s TV moved from regional stations to national broadcasting.
The availability and content of magazines changed.
Perhaps this has been an evolution increasing its rate of development, beyond what we are used to coping with.
Then along came social media, and suddenly adults are required to participate in social media to keep in touch with the children. They are more frequently at a further distance than the neighbourhood as they were pre 1970s
It’s a generation (or perhaps two or three) that we are coming to reflect on.
1970s Pacific countries were very much consumed in the Vietnam War. We were engaged in mass communication. Protestors claimed the streets as their theatre. Hippies got a fright and retreated to distant islands like Waiheke and Gt Barrier.
We could blame them for starting the trend.

Yes but the pc which is now in our phones and the phone in its personal and personalised nature is making people more insular whilst communicating. .. I wonder at the generational change this may be making…interestingly and scarily this is happening in real time…to my grandchildren.
