Just how growing is the problem?
How many are taken off the streets only through the benevolence of charity organizations?
Having seen a map produced by Stuff News I was surprised to see homeless people showing up outside of the main Auckland Centre and across the city.
Do you know a man who for some reason is homeless or choosing to be homeless and why?

I am Sth Auckland, and in this area poverty does not seem to discriminate, there has been beggars in this area for ages and homeless people are fairly unseen but do exist.

Last time I went to the doctor away from home it set me back $70.00.
Do they now make their choice of location near a medical center rather than say a known location with just the few other local drunks.

There are several men in my area of Auckland. I was walking down Hobson Street and I saw a lady among a group of homeless men. Without saying the whole story, it looked as though she was homeless too.
I am very uncomfortable seeing anyone homeless.

Now that you mention a homeless woman it reminds of one in K Rd back in the early 80s.
She had been a medical student, and as they did back then, made funny things and injected alcohol into their veins.
She must have got the mix wrong or the quantity and fried her brain.
I wasn’t privy to the precise details of the incident but needless to say, it was a life changing experience and she was quite young for a homeless person.

I see the news today has items about homeless centres in the provinces – Rotorua and Whangārei.
These appear to be community projects rather than charity organizations that perhaps we expect in the big cities to deal with this.

I have chosen to be ‘homeless’ for roughly the last 4 years.
Prior to that I bought a van and fully equipped it as a self-contained camper.
Since then, I pay no rates, no rental fees and basically do whatever the hell I want.
Diesel, food, and that’s it. Oh, and the occasional really expensive mechanical problem.

Right Now the Media are keen to report on a “homeless woman”
A Homeless man? Get real, beater basher, arsehole deserves to be homeless, women in this country know this as does the media.
A homeless woman though.
The media hunger for her story as clearly she has been victimized by a male. Oh yes her plight is caused by one of those MEN, quick NZ Herald. “rug munching gender biased reporters Quick”

This article looks to be an indication that Whangārei is leading in the community effort to deal with homelessness.
From recent conversations I gather that Northland has been at particular risk of this trend due to a migration from Auckland at a faster rate than housing could conceivably be provided.
A least there was a man in the supporting picture.

This is your action news reporter out on the street looking for The Precariat
This week I spoke to an example (not his real name);
Disillusioned at a younger age than many of us, and once bitten twice shy, this man came up with his own industry formula.
I’m good at my job and employers know this so what ever vehicle I’m in, that’s my bed for the night.
He’s been doing this 24/7 for the past 7 years and has taken 6 months off to travel around nz for a break.

What employer is going to admit to anything like this when all they’re really doing is providing ‘the best option’ to retain a good employee.
