  1. This comparison is worth considering;

    Also a couple of days ago, one of NZ major booksellers Whitcoulls has pulled a Jordan Peterson book off its shelves following the Christchurch Mosque attacks, due to some derogatory & islamophobic comments about Muslims.

  2. Although I support the good intentions of those who devised this petition I won’t sign because it isn’t clear about the criteria applied for banning entry to NZ and speaking here. By not being clear, the petition simply adds to a pernicious trend towards censorship of opinion. I agree that Ms Ford has transgressed a boundary by encouraging violence to a particular group. Failure to prosecute her for that crime in the countries she committed it highlights the favouritism widely shown towards women and the current fashion of accepting hate speech against men and white people. But prosecution and conviction through a formal trial for me would be the only solid basis to refuse her entry to NZ. That would provide a criterion differentiating her from Molyneaux, Southern, Peterson and most supporters of the (loosely defined) men’s movement, who don’t break laws by inciting violence. In contrast, this petition seeks to base entry to NZ and use of public venues on informal value judgments about the opinions a person expresses, and that’s a slippery slope. I would prefer Ms Ford to come to NZ where she expresses hate speech or encouragement of violence against men and is prosecuted and imprisoned by NZ authorities for that. I would sign a petition calling for NZ authorities to monitor what she says and to act against her as soon as there is any evidence she has broken a law.

    Another thing to consider is that banning Ms Ford’s entry or venue loses the chance to highlight her extremism and what her behaviour tells us about feminism. Better she comes and that people mount a newsworthy protest to increase public awareness of her undesirability and to stimulate the public debates that we so badly need concerning gender issues.

  3. Not that one wants to be too pedantic Man X Norton …

    That would provide a criterion differentiating her from Molyneaux, Southern, Peterson and most supporters of the (loosely defined) men’s movement, who don’t break laws by inciting violence.

    I think for the sake of self preservation that might be better expressed as …

    That would provide a criterion differentiating her from Molyneaux, Southern, Peterson and most supporters of the (loosely defined) men’s movement, who don’t incite violence and break the law.

    That would require the venue to insist on media access to report what she actually says in those meetings.

    Ford hides behind this “Oh, yes, I say outrageous things to annoy certain people and spark debate but that’s not really me.”

  5. I support activism but I think we need to take into account historical context even though we try to avoid bias.

    Historically we’re accustomed to seeing men the subject of attack and women protected from attack.

    That’s the immediate difference between taking a petition against Peterson and Ford.

    This petition is highly likely to fail for that reason alone but it’s existence proves the point. Sometimes we need to be brave enough to go there, knowing that.

    Consideration should be given to evidence of intent and perhaps the obligation to have controversial appearances recorded.

    This is my concern with Ford;

    She receives an unwarranted freedom to access audiences with media bias.

    The message she delivers and what we hear that she delivered are very different things.

    That’s is perhaps a point to fopus on.

  6. And it operates in a similar way here also just curious.

    The elite behavior of leading feminists suppresses the female identity.

    Then in comes Clementine Ford arming them with a new identify and weapons of words.

    Go forth and say as I have said and be strong and cut down any man who dares cross your path.

    A little dramatic but I’m sure you see the point @justcurious
