Lonely old men
For someone who has lived a lifetime with a loving wife they could easily hold the view that all women are loving honest souls – then later in life – finding themselves alone in their old age could easily become the victim of the less honest.
A woman has been held in custody following the alleged
deception of an 80 year old man:
A 29-year-old Hamilton woman alleged to have used her elderly victim’s eftpos card 279 times has been denied bail.
Kelly Louise Cloke is accused of using the card for a massive spendup of $87,433.10 on everything from a new car, to hotel rooms, clothing and gambling.
Cloke faces 43 charges of using a document for pecuniary advantage between May and July this year.
Cloke is alleged to have lied to the victim – who is believed to be in his 80s – and told him that she was his neighbour. She is then accused of taking the man grocery shopping and noticing his Pin number before stealing the card from his house.
Cloke applied for bail in the Hamilton District Court yesterday, but was declined by Judge Noel Cocurullo.
Cloke was remanded in custody without plea for a psychiatric report to reappear later this month.
The defendant does not have name suppression. It is possible she may have duped other men for lessor amounts or may have used different names.
Anyone in the Hamilton area have a similar story that hasn’t been reported to the Police?
