  1. CNBC reporter Matthew Taylor tweeted:

It’s believed man that set himself on fire may have been protesting family law issues. Police cannot confirm at this stage

He also posted a photo, but the only visible placard is unreadable (maybe not English).

RadioNZ report, with no mention of what he was protesting about, here: Man set himself on fire at Parliament – police

More detail in the NZ Herald: Protester sets himself on fire outside Parliament

What appears to be a homemade protest sign inside the cordon looks to reference child custody issues.

Words that can be made out on the sign talk about the “issue” not being taking mothers away from children. It said to stop the “murdering of fathers”.

  2. In a difficult to read photo the man’s sign appears to read “Issue is not take children’s mother away. Enough murdering father by cult and lawyers”

  3. He had been protesting for some time apparently.

One of his other signs said.
In Iran they stone women, in NZ they stone men.

As for the chief bullshit artist (Police Officer) who’s comrades were probably part of destroying this mans life at some stage, I would like to say he’s a dick head. These are his comments.

    …..
But when asked about the sign, Turner said he could not confirm there was one, and that police were still collecting evidence.
Turner said the incident was “highly unusual and very unfortunate”.
    ……
Everyone knows theirs a sign. You can see it.
Male family court suicides are not highly unusual and based on how they don’t give a shit about the hundreds of these other male suicides and blindly continue with the same practices that have caused those, knowing they will cause more, the word unfortunate is just condescending bullshit.

    He should have said.
Our policy of applying family court laws in the community in a sexually bigoted manner has some unfortunate side effects. Large numbers of male suicides is one of those side effects. We are very disappointed that he chose not to suicide in a private setting as this is the case with the vast majority of other males. We consider this event an acceptable consequence of our support of the family court and will consult with them as to how to ensure the mother is fully supported in the difficult times ahead due to this mans actions.

That would have been far more honest.

  7. This mornings news reports:

The man was taken to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition but passed away overnight, police said.
Yesterday, Senior Sergeant Glen Turner said: “We are treating the scene as a crime scene which is standard procedure”.

  8. Hi, I’m with you all the way. I am a member of The Backbone Collective (cos I’m female) but have admired your organisation for a long time.
    I just emailed the Collective:-

“Ooh I am SO ANGRY – Newsroom has removed anything about the man who killed himself by fire outside Government House and RNZ has toned it down to a brief item with no mention of the Family Court!!!

Both initially had photos with his placard shown.

WHO told them to take that bit out of their report??

I’ve asked them both but had no reply.

And no-one has answered my question about why the Collective’s new Report has not been mentioned publically, or my statement that the Public wants to know.

WHO?! has told them all to shut up?

Hope this isn’t innapropriate – just want the Collective to know I am distressed (and probably others are too), about the need for this man to move beyond the Complaint system and the Court, to try to get changes from the Government – just as you said in your Report that the Government Executive (although separate from the Court), is still accountable for the state of the Court. (Can’t say it right just now but you know what I mean I hope.)

I myself have thought of threatening suicide several times over the last three years of my 11-year battle for Justice from the Family Court.”

    Thinking of you all.Regards, Trish

  9. So the New Zealand MSD (Menz Suicide Department) has just removed another male from the New Zealand population. MSD no doubt preparing their blame shift strategy right about now. Wonder how this mans wife and kids are feeling?

  12. Just gutted and pissed with governments throughout the western world pandering to extremists on the left at the expense of men.

Locke’s 2nd treatise of 1689 sets out the “contract” between the government and the people. We give up some freedoms, for the state to provide law and order, security, preserve the balance of our remaining liberties …with the over arching requirement that Government works on our behalf, for our interests. Not just women, men too. But the New Zealand Government has broken that contract with men. They have allowed and approve of a Family Court that clearly works against men. They allow a main stream media (corporate media) that perpetrates an anti male narrative daily (some subtle, most overt).

As far as i’m concerned, I no longer respect the government, their corrupted rule of law is an ass, .. i reserve the right to look after myself, my interest and to work against the state as and when required to preserve my rights. To put another way, from this point on, the rules are – there are no rules.

With this public suicide, multiple parties have his blood on their hands. You anti male bashers, you know who you are… you really need to take the Red Pill reality check.

  13. Our Roman Catholic prime minister will know the significance of this mans sacrifice on the steps of parliament, on the eve of the equinox no less. This mans sacrifice for the greater good will see the restoration of rights for fathers. The right of fathers to be treated equally under the law, the right of fathers to see corrupted lawyers prosecuted for their crimes in their pursuit of greed and selfishness as they harm children and destroy good men. The right of fathers and children to be remunerated for the damages and harm caused to so many by so few. The great sign is fulfilled today as the Virgin gives birth to the King. We are entering a time of significant change for the better, a time of peace and enlightenment. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truely his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. Ezekiel 25:17, Ezekiel 34, psalm 23 and Genesis 4.

  14. Reading the signs, I didn’t get the feeling his act was a religious one, but certainly not lacking an intelligent base.

His statement, I thought was that having no vote, and being persecuted, he, like a Vietmese monk, executed himself in front of their tormentor.

  18. So many men, and now a sizeable and growing number of woman want better treatment of men and families in the courts.

Mothers and woman using the courts system for a whole range of punishments for former male partners has taken the whole of society down a path of destruction of the family unit, the lost of wealth and caused the insecurity of children. It has hugely affected the upbringing of children and causing mental anguish and final suicide of men, children and young adults.

Mothers who are well informed not to allow a father to much custody to his children in order to keep the cash flowing at the maximum level should be recognised by the courts and deemed unlawful.

Delaying fathers rights for access to his children in the courts system for precious years and using the drip feed method as a bargaining tool should be reconised by the courts and deemed unlawful.

Woman who use the courts system for unsubstantiated sexual allegations for attention, or cutting of fathers access to his children should be recognised by the courts and deemed unlawful. Perhaps criminally punishable if they were completely false.

The courts should never be used to allow a man to lose access to his children except in obvious threatening cases.

This suicide was a combination of protest and escape. A release from a situation and life created by NZ law. He did this on the lawn of parliament a couple of days out from a general election. This man did not choose to go quietly into the night without making is pain known to the world. His choice was not painless. He chose the most painful method he could think of. This man wanted to make his life count towards change. He was so overwhelmed with loss he burnt himself to death.

I know of children who have become adults look back at what happened to them, now knowing they were ripped off by the anti dad system. A typical outcome from a destroyed family leads to far less security, care for children and hopelessness thoughts from the child and father that can lead to suicide.

I would like to put forward the motion that a memorial be put in the spot where this man burnt himself causing his death. Plain, simple small made of stone.

But I fear this suicide will only be treated as a mental health issue rather than a human rights injustice. For far to long Government and feminists have blamed suicide as mental issue when they full well know they set men up to fail using laws and courts to do it.

Using the word “issue” is offensive to me. This was a man who had no chance when his former partner kicked him for touch. He used his life to help others see.

With of without a memorial I have entered into my diary to go and quietly stand on the spot he burnt himself each year. The date and time will be on the day he struck the match. I think date was 21 September 2017 Anyone know when the time was?

Kids are growing up without fathers. Kids are being handed over to the custody of the least competent parent simply because she possesses a vagina.. Never mind the fact that she’s a lunatic and incapable of holding down a job or providing emotional and financial support for the poor children. They wring their hands and go on about boys growing up disrespecting women and getting into crime yet they don’t make the connection between state sponsored father alienation and crime. Idiots!!!! And as for that poor man I feel so sorry for him. The news agencies are too gutless to even report on it.. RIP

  23. Friday 21st September 2018 at 3.50pm i will be at Parliament with my short private vigil for this man. To me its a silent protest at this obvious silent Government sanctioned male bashing via its various institutions, .. The Ministry of Women’s Affairs, The Family Court, the Police (who turn up at a domestic incident and immediately put the male in cuffs, no questions asked) – that is Government abusing our (mens) freedoms and liberties.

The media play their part too in their anti male b.s. Over the years its a silent creep of our (mens) rights as citizens being removed, and I for one am not having it. Paula Bennett – you are a disgrace with your pro female anti male attitude !!. Girlfriends at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs – your time is up – MGTOW is here brothers !!! ~Gordon.

  24. I highly recommend people see the documentary “THE RED PILL” by Cassie Jaye.

It is not provided on US or NZ Neflix but is on UK Netflix free. Extracts are on Youtube. Feminists the world over have attempted to stop its screening, in Australia Canada etc.. – as they recognise its truth, and sometimes – the truth hurts. If you look around, you can find it., although you’ll probably need to pay for the viewing. This is a documentary that should be shown in every high school in NZ, and every liberal family court judge should be made to sit and watch it in its entirety. ~Gordon.

  26. If this man were protesting any of the fashionable causes, his story would have been front-page news, with a lot of sympathetic coverage. If he had been a woman seeking to raise the public profile of female victims, it would have been front-page news for the next year, with all politicians, journalists, health officials, teachers, and movie stars making it their cause celebre. The obtuseness of western leader on men’s issues makes me furious. My father died two weeks ago, at age 86, and I am thankful that I had him in my life for so long (though I wish it had been at least another decade). Far too many children are being deprived of their fathers and vice versa. It is a crying shame.

  41. Details of his case history.
His partner got involved in a religious sect.
He had a protection order agianst him.
He was accused of breaching that twice.
He was imprisoned, for those breaches? Or refusing a psychological assessment?
Note he has S133 on one of his signs.
He fought back in the courts and won.
So his imprisonment was not legitimate?

    WARNING
This is a document that is aimed to denigrate and slander this man.
It intends to show a violent, narcissistic, mysoginistic, mentally unstable man.
    What is missing?
What took place to create the protection order?
What did he do to breach the orders?
Saying women complain too much is offensive?

How can he have a lack of insight to his violence if the protection order and breaches involved none?
How can he have a lack of insight to his offence he was in prison for?
    He was found not guilty.
Ms Hill is the man hater (narcissistic feminist) with no insight to her bigotry.

Cult has many meanings in this case.

A significant matter was that the Appeal judge allowed Sid’s appeal on the basis that he had reasonable excuse for refusing a psychological assessment that had been ordered by a Court. Men might wish to be aware that they don’t need to submit to assessment by psychologists or psychiatrists unless this is required under the Mental Health Act. Just read Sid’s High Court appeal and you will find your reasons for refusing are good enough.

Zdenek Hanzlik died in hospital on September 22, 2017.

In his decision issued on Tuesday, coroner Peter Ryan said Hanzlik died as a result of the injuries he received after he was seen to set himself alight in the grounds of Parliament the day before.

Hanzlik, 60, an engineer from Rotorua, was seen protesting family court issues over an extended period.

While it is one of the most significant legal decisions this country has seen since 1999, you are right to point out that it doesn’t make any list of public interest.

The response we see here is also troubling in that it tends to indicate the level of social ignorance about our dysfunctional administration.

The media gloss over likewise indicates either ignorance or complacency or compliance.

This RNZ reports quotes the Coroner’s report.

“Having been murdered by the system.”

The deliberate risk of life for unlawful gain would be the question but this has been ruled a suicide.

I don’t see anyone asking the Attorney General if the deceased had made any submissions to parliamentary departments any if those where made available to the Coroner’s inquest.

One assumes this will simply die a natural death.

  55. “Half of women who die of homicide are killed by a partner or ex-partner
Female victims 18+ by killer relationship (one dot = one victim)

The above quote is displayed in bold and is taken from the Stuff investigation into why people kill.

I didn’t read much of it because it appeared near the start.

Biased media are hardly the right people to be researchers of the question.

The man in this incident at Parliament killed himself not his partner or his children.

If we looked at acts of omission and negligence I suspect we’d find many people having a comfortable laugh at what they got away with.

    Comment by Evan Myers — Mon 13th May 2019 @ 9:38 am

  56. What happened in the last year and one day of this man’s individual sovereignty?

    That question is never closed.

Did anyone make their purpose unlawful, for their own gain, or was their purpose unlawful beyond their knowledge but regardless their actions indicate that the reasonably ignored the risk of death.

If you don’t understand this guys thinking you’ll never make use of his sacrifice.

    Comment by Boonie — Tue 14th May 2019 @ 4:13 pm
