Hello John
I understand you are the owner and administrator of Menz.org.nz. My name is Mark Miller and I am a practising barrister and have been a child support review officer for IRD for over 12 years. My work with the IRD is highly regarded by the department and my name is mentioned regularly in the Menz website for my work as a review officer.
I am leaving IRD as a review officer & intend to utilise my years of experience & knowledge as a review officer and undertake private work in the child support area. (more…)
Conspiracy of silence on value of marriage: Politicians frightened to admit fathers are vital, says top family lawyer. Supporting marriage has become a ‘no go area’ for our politicians says Baroness Deech.
She says an absence of fathers is ‘harming’ the next generation of children. Politicians are ‘too afraid’ of offending cohabiting partners or single parents.

Hi All
I remember hearing somewhere that IRD CS aren’t allowed to take more than 25% of a liable parents income per month. Can anyone confirm if that’s true or not? If this is so is it based on gross or nett income? The other thing I was wondering is about arrears? Is arrears regarded as a completely different tax or should child support + arrears combined also have a maximum per month total for the liable parent. The reason I ask is because on the 1st of April my assessment will be $1750 per month + arrears of 250 per month. I have been told that there is no way they will accept less than 250 per month for arrears. The total figure of 2000 per month will be more than a third of my nett income so I’ll either have to give up the house or stop eating. Does anyone out there know what the maximum they can take is as a percentage of monthly or yearly income including arrears. Thanks guys.

Paternity testing is carried out as a proof of biological relations between a child and an alleged father. In a normal case, obtaining a sample from the said father is as simple as a swab from the mouth. If the alleged parent is deceased however, the entire process is a bit more complicated. Fortunately, it is still possible to find out the truth even if this is the case.

OK, this is probably a rhetorical question and I would imagine that the answer is ‘no they are completely useless’ , but my daughter is at risk and I don’t know where to turn.

Once again a man dies and the headline is about his wife and child. Typical feminist journalism at it’s finest.

Most paternity DNA tests are carried out after the birth of a child. This is often because doubts regarding paternity often arise after a child is several years old. When there are doubts or issues during the time of pregnancy some people may opt for a prenatal DNA test. A prenatal paternity test is an option but doing any test before the child is born needs some further thought as there are certain implications that are both moral/ ethical as well as medical. For us to make NZ into a better environment, for men, women and children, it is important that people complain vigorously and constructively.

Workplace safety gets a token mention in the press again; a few nuggets from the article –
“The health and safety sector and industry in New Zealand has suffered from too much talk and no action,”
“The need for change and for the various bodies to start “doing, not just talking” is urgent, she says.”
“Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson said in June that New Zealand’s workplace death and injury rates are not improving.”
“In a submission to the Taskforce, Robyn Levinge says New Zealand has never prioritised health and safety like it has with road safety, domestic violence and drink driving.”

This horrible case in India has led to worldwide campaigns demanding greater protection for women. A female student was tricked into boarding a bus that was actually being taken for a joy ride by a group of drunk men who then beat her with an iron bar, stripped her, gang raped her and threw her out of the moving vehicle naked on to the street then tried to run her over presumably to ensure her death. The woman died in hospital some days later from her injuries. (more…)
